Graphic Design USA announced 5 by 5 Design as a winner of the 2010 American Web Design Awards. Recognized as award-winning designs were the Prevolv and Katherine Bass websites. Judging was based on the power of each site to attract audiences, communicate information, generate engagement, and market products, services, and ideas through creative design.
April 2010
A book drive organized by 5 by 5 Design in partnership with Volunteers of America of Minnesota resulted in more than 50 books and $150 dollars worth of donations. Collected books and funds were provided to Phoenix High School, an institution that serves at-risk youth in Minneapolis. This volunteer activity to engage young minds through the gift of reading supports the values of 5 by 5 Design to do good in the world through creativity, strategy, quality, and entrepreneurialism.

This month’s Minnesota Women in Marketing and Communications’ publication, “Member to Member,” featured 5 by 5 Design co-owner, Diana Lillicrap as the cover-story author. The article, titled “Are women natural communicators?” reports on a research study examining what draws individuals into the field of communications and what makes the industry unique in its ability to show gender balance, or in some instances, a tendency to attract more women than men.

Graphic Design USA selected 5 by 5 Design to win the 2009 American Graphic Design Awards Certificate of Excellence. Winning projects included the The McKnight Foundation’s
Awards in Human Service Booklet and the 5 by 5 Design
Holiday Client Gift. This year’s contest received more than 8,000 entries with a highly selective 15 percent selected as winners.

Kane Consulting featured the founders of 5 by 5 Design, Diana Lillicrap and Wendy Ruyle, as guest presenters at a workshop focused on social media. “Visual Strategy for Social Media: How to clean up your online brand” provided an open forum to explore the strategy and tactical application of creating a consistent look for social media marketing.

5 by 5 Design was selected as a winner of the Graphic Design USA American Web Design Awards for the creation of the
360° online catalog. With more than 500 entries, only 40 individual companies and organizations were selected as winners. The winning criteria was based on the ability of well-designed websites and online communications to attract audiences, generate engagement and response, and promote products, services and ideas.

Graphic Design USA sponsors various design competitions each year. The American Graphic Design Awards is the biggest and broadest of them all. 5 by 5 Design is honored to have been selected for two awards of Design Excellence out of more than 10,000 entries in this year’s contest.

Nwyze Thought Strategies. Senior Editor Megan Lane Patrick featured 5 by 5 Design as one of seven national design firms recognized for creatively using paper to produce great design communications.

5 by 5 Design was selected as a winner of the 2007-2008 American Package Design Awards Certificate of Excellence for creative design of the
Verikira Naturals packaging line. This national contest, sponsored by the prestigious design publication
Graphic Design USA, gave fewer than 10 percent of all entries a Certificate of Excellence status.

In honor of our gracious clients and great friends, 5 by 5 Design made a holiday donation to The Salvation Army, designating the funds to be used to provide clothing to local families in need.

Minnesota Women in Marketing and Communications featured the founders of 5 by 5 Design, Diana Lillicrap and Wendy Ruyle, as guest presenters at the first of a series of three Learning Lunch events. “Method and Mayhem: Creating Balanced Communications” explored the various sides of communications, including creativity, crisis, leadership, and management. 5 by 5 Design’s topic—“Creativity and Organization”—encompassed ideas for combining clever design and a creative process to energize brand identity.
